The Fire TV now supports 4K Ultra High Definitionstreaming quality when used with compatible 4K Ultra HD TVs. The company said that it does not intend the Fire TV to compete with gaming consoles; instead, its gaming capabilities are geared toward people who don’t already own a console but may play games on  a smartphone or tablet. 4.    The remote for the box has voice-search capability; the latest version of the stick, released in the fall of 2015, comes with a voice remote as well, but you can also get it with a non-voice remote for $10 less.

Like most stick-shaped media devices, the Fire TV Stick$39.99at Amazon is nondescript and unobtrusive. It’s a matte black bar the approximate size and shape of a pack of gum that plugs directly into your HDTV’s HDMI port. If there isn’t enough room around the port, Amazon includes a short extender cable to add some wiggle room. A micro USB port on the side of the stick powers everything through the included lengthy cable and wall adapter. Don’t count on your HDTV’s USB ports to provide enough juice for theFire Stick; you’ll probably have to plug it into the wall for it toconsistently work.

The included remote is chunkier than the Fire TV’s microphone-equippedremote. It’s still a relatively slim matte black bar a bit larger than the stick itself, with a circular direction pad and six buttons for controlling playback and menu navigation. It lacks a Voice Search button, and you can’t simply talk into it to search for content like you can with the Fire TV remote. Amazon offers an optional voice search remote upgrade for $29.99 thateffectively gives the Fire Stick the Fire TV’s remote.
You can also use voice search with your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet if you install the free Fire TV Remote app. It adds full control over the Fire TV Stick, including text input and menu navigation.


If you choose the former, you’ll get a warning when you boot the system up for the first time. It’ll tell you that it can’t draw enough power from the USB port to provide the ideal experience. I opted for the power via a wall socket.


The Fire TV is a much more powerful device than the Fire TVStick. The Stick isn’t nearly as fast as the Fire TV when jumping between different services or browsing the various menus. Amazon Instant Video is incredibly quick to load and resume videos because it’s integrated directly into the Fire Stick’s operating systems, but during testing, I faced modest wait times when loading YouTube or Netflix, and jumping out and back into those services required reloading the apps completely each time. For the smaller sizeand the lower price of the Fire Stick, you have to trade off the very snappyexperience of the Fire TV for a slightly longer wait (but not nearly as long asthe Google Nexus Player).
This means you can’t expect as smooth a gaming experience with the Fire TV Stick. In tests, Sonic CD felt noticeably slower on the Fire TV Stick than it is on the Fire TV. That said, we can’t recommend relying on any media hub for serious gaming.
The Amazon Fire TV Stick takes most of what made the Fire TV compelling and cuts both its price and size by more than half. It’s $4 morethan the Google Chromecast and can do so much more, like letting you use itwithout a mobile device at all. It’s not as peppy as the Fire TV, but for its price and size it’s an excellent media hub you can pop into the back of your HDTV and forget about. If you’re not an Amazon Prime member, the Fire TV Sticksits neck-and-neck with the excellent Roku Streaming Stick, offering a morecurated experience with nearly the same functionality for $11 less. If you are an Amazon Prime member, the Fire TV Stick is an incredibly appealing, very affordable gateway to the plethora of content you’ve already paid for.

While it’s technically a version of Android, the Fire OS software that drives both the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV is thoroughly reskinned and restructured to be HDTV-friendly. The Fire TV Stick offers effectively the same interface as the Fire TV, with large tiles representing media and apps arranged in a series of easily navigable rows. Amazon’s own movie and music libraries take center stage, integrating directly into the Movies, TV, and Music menus. If you have Amazon Prime (and a 30-day trial subscription isincluded with the Fire TV Stick), you can access a lot of content withoutdownloading any apps.
Amazon Instant Video stands at the front of the experience, with Prime Video’s strong-but-not-quite-Netflix-or-Hulu-Plus library making Prime membership very appealing when used with the device. The third-party app selection is generous for a media hub, with dozens of online media services and a few hundred games. All of the other major movie and music services are available, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Sling TV, Twitch, and the just-added HBO Go. About half of the gameson the Fire TV Stick can work with the included remote, but the really goodtitles like Sonic CD and Terraria require the optional $39.99 Fire GameController, or another compatible Bluetooth gamepad. However, those games aren’t recommended on the Fire TV Stick, since it’s notably slower than the Fire TV.

Where the full-size set-top boxes like the Nexus Player and Apple TV struggle with too little content to choose from on their platforms, Amazon Fire TV has an abundance of apps at your disposal. All of the primary suspects are here and accounted for: Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Instant, Sky News, Spotify and more. It actually feels rather strange loading up Netflix onan Amazon device – if you take Now TV as an example of a device that has itsown interests at heart, you will find neither Netflix or Amazon on board. In my view, the more open the better.
Games are also present and accounted for on Amazon’s smaller system, and for the most part the less-intensive titles play incredibly well. Disappointingly though, you won’t find many graphically demanding games herelike The Walking Dead Season 1 or 2.
Nor are you likely to spot Grand Theft Auto here anytime soon. That doesn’t seem to be due to any fault of the hardware – the system boasts the right specs for those higher-end games – the content simply isn’t there.
The lack of games doesn’t necessarily hurt the system, however. If you want to have a streaming system that’s jam-packed with gaming goodness, consider the full-size Amazon Fire TV or Nexus Player. Both have a dedicated gamepad sold separately and have a great selection of titles.
Speaking of separate controllers, the full-size Amazon Firecontroller can also be paired with the Fire TV Stick. But many of the 200-plus games available on the console don’t necessarily need – or work better – with a controller instead of the standard remote
The launch line-up of apps is as strong as it’s going to be outside of a Roku product, and though I wish it were a little more AAA game-oriented and much more platform-agnostic (searches only return Amazon content. Also, a shared Google Play library would more than make up for any shortcomings in selection). That said, this is still a fairly balanced ecosystem.


If you’re a Fire TV owner you’ll notice that this remote doesn’t come with the built-in mic and voice-search button. The functionalitystill exists if you use the accompanying Fire TV app, but it doesn’t exist on the pack-in peripheral.
One of the biggest advantages of buying the Amazon Fire TVStick over the other guys is the remote.

If you really need it, though, Amazon sells the full-size remote separately or allows you to sync your old Fire TV remote to the Stick without much of a problem. It just goes to show how much this functionality costs – but we didn’t think it detracted too much from the viewing experience.

The remote also works over Bluetooth, which means it won’t need direct line of sight to the Stick itself – a handy feature considering 95% of users will want to keep the Fire TV out of sight behind the television. In my testing, it was in the back of my television so having Bluetooth was essential. It may not win the award for “most durable remote”, but the remote is exactly like the Stick: simple and efficient.

Naming and evolution

Founder and CEO of Jeff Bezos commanded his deputies in 2004 to build the world’s best e-reader before Amazon’s competitors could. In reference to this e-reader, Amazon originally used the code-name Fiona.

On October 7, 2009, Amazon announced an international version of the Kindle 2 with the ability to download new titles in over 100 countries. It became available October 19, 2009. The international Kindle 2 is physically verysimilar to the US-only model, although it uses a different mobile networkstandard.
The original Kindle 2 used CDMA2000 for use on the Sprint network. Theinternational version used standard GSM and 3G GSM, enabling it to be used on AT&T’s U.S. mobile network and internationally in 100 other countries.

The international version of the Kindle 2 is believed to have a noticeably higher contrast screen, although Amazon does not advertise this. Another review done by Gadget lab, disputes this and actually states that the font appears to be fuzzier than that of the first generation kindle. The review goes on to say that changes to the Kindle 2 have made it tougher to read the smaller font sizes that most books use. Some writers discuss how the font size is at times worse than that of the first-generation Kindle. It appears that whether the Kindle 2 is clearer or fuzzier than the prior model depends on the font size. These issues became moot when Amazon sourced a higher contrast E Ink technology it dubbed “E Ink Pearl” and which it used in its subsequent e-readers until the introduction of “E Ink Carta”.

Amazon announced the Kindle DX on May 6, 2009. This device has a larger screenthan the standard Kindle and supports PDF files. It has an accelerometer, which enables the user to seamlessly rotate pages between landscape and portrait orientations when the Kindle DX is turned on its side.It is marketed as more suitable for displaying newspaper and textbook content.The device can only connect to Whispernet in the United States. It can be distinguished from the later International version by a serial number starting with “B004”.

It is speculated the case color change is to improve contrast ratio perception further, as some users found the prior white casing highlighted that the E Ink background is light gray and not white. The CPU is of the same speed as Kindle Keyboardbut is a different revision. The DXG has only half the system memory, 128MB, ofthe Kindle Keyboard. Due to these hardware differences, the DXG runs the same firmware as Kindle 2. Therefore, DXG cannot display international fonts (such as the Cyrillic font, Chinese, or any other non-Latin font), and PDF support and the web browser are limited to the Kindle 2’s features. The Kindle DX waswithdrawn from sale in October 2012, but in September 2013 was made availableagain in the US and internationally, with the 3G data free to access the Kindle Store and Wikipedia. Loading personal documents by USB is free, but sending them via 3G is about $1 per megabyte. Its battery life is about one week with 3G on and two weeks with 3G off. Text-to-Speech and MP3 playback are supported.

The official leather cover for the Paperwhite uses the hall effect sensor in the device that detects when the cover is closed/opened to turn the screen off/on respectively. This device was the first Kindle to track one’s reading speed to estimate when one will finish a chapter or book; this feature was later included with updates to the other Kindles and Kindle Fire tablets.

The Voyage uses “PagePress”, a navigation system that has sensors on either side of the screen that turns the page when pressed. PagePress may be disabled, but the touchscreen is always active. It has one thicker side that tapers to an edge that is 20% thinner than the Paperwhite. It includes a removable leather battery cover for deviceprotection and increased battery life that is available in either black, walnut (brown) or merlot (red); the cover fits in the tapered edge. The Oasis has 28 hours of battery life if used with the battery cover with Wi-Fi off, however without the cover the Oasis Kindle battery lasts about seven hours. It has nearly 3 GB of user storage. The Oasis includes the Bookerly (serif) font and its is the first Kindle to include the Amazon Ember (sans-serif) font.

Amazon released the upgraded basic touchscreen model Kindle 8 on July 7, 2016 that has either a black or white shell, double the RAM (512 MB) of the Kindle 7and is thinner and has Bluetooth, available at the same price ($79 ad-supported, $99 no ads). Woodman labs inc came into existence in 2002 and was founded by Nick Woodman. The HD HERO2 was launched on October 24, 2011. It has an 11 MP image sensor, improved low-light capability and records at up to 120 frames per second. It was sold with three different accessory packages as the Outdoor, Motorsports, and Surf Editions.
In late 2012, GoPro announced the Hero 3 line of cameras. These new cameras came in three editions: black, silver and white.
All three versions of the HERO3 come in a new 30% smaller and25% lighter package, with WiFi functionality built in. The Black edition also includes the WiFi Remote. The Black Edition cannot record at 25/30 FPS in 720p and WVGA resolutions; it can only record at very fast framerates in those resolutions. In October 2013 GoPro released the HERO3+, available in Black and Silver Editions,[46] which replaced the HERO3 generation. The HERO3 White Edition remains as GoPro’s low-end device.
The HERO3+ camera models claim dramatically improved lowlight performance, and have a waterproof enclosure which is 20% lighter and 15% smaller than the HERO3’s, according to the GoPro website. The HERO3+ camera housing is 20% smaller than the HERO3. The cameras are claimed to have improved image sharpness (close focus down to 7″ vs about 3 ft on the HERO3, at the expense of distant focus which is slightly less sharp[clarification needed] with HERO3+), and better audio functionality with wind noise reduction. Battery life is claimed to be 30% longer than for the HERO3 model (both through better efficiency and a higher-capacity battery of the same dimensions).
The Black Edition has video modes of 1440p48, 1080p60,960p100 and 720p120 as well as 4K15 and 2.7K30 and can shoot 12MP stills at up to 30 frames per second. Along with the increased resolution, the HERO3+ Black Edition also offers an optional function in firmware (called “SuperView”) which increases the field of view. It has additional functions, including dynamic low light situation adjustment, higher-quality recording modes (higher bitrates, no white balance applied, etc.) etc. The Black Edition continues to include a Wifi Remote. It does not have the ability to record 25/30 FPS in 720p and WVGA modes (it can only record at very fast framerates in those lower resolutions). This is an intentional firmware limitation, as the manufacturer does not expect a camera with its capabilities to be used at low resolution and framerate. The battery runtime of HERO3+ Black Edition, is significantly longer than HERO3 Black Edition but 30–50% lower than the battery runtime of the older HERO2 and HERO1.
The Silver Edition has video modes of 1080p60 and 720p120and can shoot 10MP stills at up to 10 frames per second. In contrast to the Black Edition, the Silver Edition can record at 25/30 FPS (or higher) in all supported resolutions. HERO3+ Silver Edition also has about 25%-50% longer battery runtime during recording than HERO3+ Black Edition (they both use the same batteries).[47] The difference in runtime depends on the resolution/FPS combination, and whether WiFi and GoPro mobile application are used during recording. The difference in runtime increases as the FPS is lowered and the additional functions are deactivated on both cameras. The battery runtime of HERO3+ Silver Edition is similar to the battery runtime of HERO2 and HERO1.

In September 2014 GoPro announced the HERO4, available inBlack Edition and Silver Edition, which replace their respective HERO3+ generation predecessors. The Hero, a budget camera, was also announced.
The HERO4 Black Edition still has a 12 mp CMOS and a f/2.8 fixed maximum aperture and focus free. It adds Bluetooth connectivity, Highlight tag, Protune Available for photo and a new processor claimed by GoPro to be twice as fast as that of the HERO3+ Black Edition, doubling the frame rates in most resolutions. The HERO4 Black Edition can record 4K video (3840×2160) at a frame rate of 24, 25 and 30 fps. In Superview mode, 4k is only possible at 25 fps. Many other rates and resolutions are available. The HERO4Black Edition still shoots stills at a maximum of 12MP with a maximum burstrate of 30 fps. With Wi-Fi disabled at 4k/30, GoPro claims the HERO4 Black Edition battery life to be 65 minutes, increasing to a maximum of 1h 50′ at 720p/240. The HERO4 Black battery is in a different form factor than its predecessors. Initial side-by-side comparisons of HERO3+ and HERO4 Black edition video results suggest that the newer model has
more detail at long range, and similar performance at close range.
The HERO4 Silver Edition is basically a HERO3 Black Editionwith the addition of a micro speaker, built-in touch screen display, Protune for photo and highlight tag the first GoPro with this, a lower clocked Cortex-A9 and missing the Black Editions integrated analog-to-digital converter which supports a wider variety of professional low-sensitivity external mics. The video modes supported by the HERO4 Silver Edition are similar to those of the HERO3+ Black, due to the higher processing speed and thermal requirements of 4K video (3840×2160), but it supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and contains the same,Ambarella Inc. The HERO4 Session, released July 6, 2015, is 50% smaller and 40% lighter comparing to other versions of the GoPro HERO4 camera.

The first centralized IP camera was released in 1996 by AxisCommunications. It was called the Axis Neteye 200 and was developed by the team of Martin Gren and Carl-Axel Alm. It used a custom web server internal to the camera. In late 1999, the company started using embedded Linux to operate its cameras. Axis also released documentation for its low-level API called “VAPIX”, which builds on the open standards of HTTP and real time streaming protocol (RTSP). This open architecture was intended to encourage third-party software manufacturers to develop compatible management and recording software.

The first decentralized IP camera was released in 1999 byMobotix.[citation needed] The camera’s Linux system contained video, alarm, and recording management functions, thus the camera system did not require licensed video management software to manage the recording event, or video management.

The first IP camera with onboard video content analytics(VCA) was released in 2005 by Intellio.[citation needed] This camera was able to detect a number of different events, such as if an object was stolen, a human crossed a line, a human entered a predefined zone, or if a car moved in the wrong direction.

IP cameras are available at resolutions from 0.3 (VGA resolution) to 29 megapixels. As in the consumer TV business, in the early 21stcentury, there has been a shift towards high-definition video resolutions, e.g.720p or 1080i and 16:9 widescreen format.

Previous generations of analog CCTV cameras use establishedbroadcast television formats (e.g. Common Intermediate Format (CIF), NTSC, PAL, and SECAM). IP cameras may differ from one another in features and functions, video encoding (compression) schemes, available network protocols, and the API to be used by video management software.

In order to address issues of standardization of IP videosurveillance, two industry groups were formed in 2008: the Open Network VideoInterface Forum (ONVIF) and the Physical Security Interoperability Alliance(PSIA). While the PSIA was founded by 20 member companies including Honeywell, GE Security and Cisco, and ONVIF was founded by Axis Communications, Bosch and Sony, each group now has numerous members. As of January 2009, each group had released version 1.0 of their specification.

IP cameras differ from previous generation analog cameraswhich transmitted video signals as a voltage, instead IP camera images are sent using the transmission and security features of the TCP/IP protocol, which provides numerous benefits:

    Two-way audio via a single network cable allows users to listen to and speak to the subject of thevideo (e.g. gas station clerk assisting a customer on how to use the pay pumps)
    The use of a Wi-Fi or wireless network.
    Distributed intelligence such as video analytics can be placed in the camera itself allowing the camera to analyze images.
    Transmission of commands for PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras via a single network.
    Secure data transmission through encryption and authentication methods such as WPA, WPA2, TKIP, AES.
    Remote accessibility  which allows live videofrom selected cameras to be viewed from any computer, mobile smartphones and other devices (with sufficient access privileges).
    PoE Power over Ethernet to supply power through the ethernet cable and operate without a dedicated power supply.

    High networkbandwidth requirements: a typical CCTV camera with resolution of 640×480 pixels, frames per second (10 frame/s) and a bit depth of 24-bit (uncompressed) would require over 73 Mbit/s.
    As with a CCTV/DVRsystem, if the video is transmitted over the public Internet rather than a private network / intranet, the system potentially becomes open to a wider audience including hackers and hoaxers. Criminals can hack into a CCTV systemto observe security measures and personnel, thereby facilitating criminal acts and rendering the surveillance counterproductive. This can be counteracted by ensuring the network and device is secured and staying informed on new security methods.
    Public internet connection video is rather complicated to set up and requires a dynamic DNS. Some producers of IP cameras have made their own software available with built-in dynamic DNS.
